2002 Mercury Mountaineer "check fuel cap."?

There is a vent tube by the fill and around the fuel tank. Some vehicles during the winter get plugged up. take it to a car wash and wash specifically around the fuel door and the hoses to the tank. It is looking for a vent and when it isn't plugged it can sense the cap loose...
