Can the steroid prednisone cause deafness and blindness in dogs?

My beagle ( who was quite the rabbit hunter) got off of this drug about 6 months ago but she lost her eyesight and hearing while on it. I'm not sure of her age for I found her on my front lawn back in 1999. I've had her ever since. My vet. fiqured she was about 4-5 yrs. old when he put her on it. That was 6 yrs. ago. which would make her approximately 11 now.
