In the past I dated this guy but we eventually stopped dating, and now we're talking again. What do you think?

we were dating for about 6 months and within the 1st month he invited me to a family party & introduced me to his family as his friend i went to more than 1 family function after that and the whole family really liked me. But me & this guy eventually stopped talking up until last month I ran into him at a party & since then we've been talking again. He came to my 22nd bday dinner and the week after I went to a club for his bday. My friends don't like that i'm talking to him again & they say this only cuz they think he's going to hurt me again. What do you think should I go off of what my friends tell me or go with my heart because i nvr stopped liking him!!!!!
